Michael Joseph Audet
SCARBOROUGH – It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Joseph Audet of Scarborough, Maine, announces his passing on August 22, 2025 at the age of 87. To some, that might sound like “a ripe old age”, but to those who knew and loved him, it was not long enough to enjoy his warmth, his humor, his generosity, his kindness.
Mike was a great communicator, being inducted into the Maine Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2005 for his work at WGAN and WPOR. Personally, he was a great communicator with friends and family — and people he encountered on the beach, in restaurants…the man enjoyed people! He especially loved the opportunity to speak in his first language, Canadian French, with tourists as well as immigrants to this area. And, maybe more importantly, he was a good listener.
Family and friends were very important to Mike, as was evident in the many parties he and his wife, Frannie, hosted in their home. From family gatherings to Christmas wrapping parties for their Random Acts of Kindness group, Greens parties, and the (almost famous) Pumpkin Party, Mike treated guests to homemade “comfort foods” such as tourtiere, seafood chowder and sourdough bread. No one left a party hungry — and often brought leftovers (if there were any) home with them.
Mike was curious and an avid reader. His choice in books ran the gamut from Building the Brooklyn Bridge (then taking a trip to Brooklyn to walk it) to The Ride of Her Life to Kristin Hannah novels. In a two person book club with his wife, taking turns reading aloud to each other every night before bed, some book choices brought up topics that inspired pretty interesting conversations!
Uncle Mike will be missed by his many nieces and nephews who could always count on his interest in, and support of, whatever new passion they developed. He appreciated the thinking of the next generation and their outlook on life and the world.
Mike was predeceased by his parents, Vincent and Martha Audet of Waterville; his brothers, John Audet and Thomas Audet, and his sister-in-law, Maria Champine.
He is survived by his wife, Frannie, his sister Sylvia O’Neal and her husband Dana; his son, Scott Audet and his wife Janet, their sons, Josh Tuttle and his wife Angie and their children Kylie, Claire, Violet and Derek, Zachary Tuttle and his wife Ann and their daughter Ally; sisters-in-law Teresa DeAngelis and her husband David, and Elizabeth Scheld and her husband Jack, his brother-in-law Jim Champine; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike’s family extends heartfelt gratitude to the many wonderful friends whose support helped Mike continue living a full life despite his health challenges.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to a cause important to Mike:
