RICHMOND – Thomas Walter Ryan, 82, of Richmond, passed away on Sept. 4, 2025, at his home.
He was born in Portland on Dec. 13, 1942, to Walter and Catherine Ryan of Westbrook. Tom and his sister, Jean attended Westbrooks schools. Tom was an accomplished student-athlete and attended the University of Maine, Orono, where he played baseball and graduated with multiple degrees in education. He also met his loving wife, Jacqueline Tremblay Ryan, while at the University. Tom and Jacqui started their family and settled in Bath where they raised five children and both had extensive careers in education and were leaders in the community.
Tom was a middle school math teacher as well as a principal at the Huse-Small school and the Fisher-Mitchell school in Bath. He finished his career doing what he loved the most, teaching middle school math at Bath Middle School.
Tom was active in the lives of his children and was an accomplished coach. His coaching experience extended to Bath Little League, Long Reach Swim Club and Bath YMCA. He was the Morse High School baseball coach for many years, winning a State Championship in 1988.
His interests included playing softball and tennis. He was an entrepreneur, owning several businesses in the Bath area and was a member of the Elks Club. He was an avid collector of items related to baseball, war history and Maine and he enjoyed searching for hidden gems at auctions and estate sales.
Above all, he adored his wife, his five children, his 12 grandchildren and his five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline Ryan.
He is survived by his sister, Jean Bailey (Hamburg, NY); his children, Erin (Bath), Greg (Woolwich), Stephanie (Virginia Beach, Va.), Pat (Chicago, Ill.) and Pete (Eliot); his grandchildren, Aslan, Kiera, Jacob, Pearl, Ellen, Sophie, Beau, Andrew, Finn, Dorothy, Lilah and Brooks; and his great grandchildren, Sailor, Kayden, Marleigh, Peyton and Zoey.
Visiting hours will take place on Friday, Sept. 12, from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Kincer Funeral Home on 130 Pleasant Street in Richmond, Maine.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Church 29 Kimball Street in Richmond, Maine.
