Gary Lynn Aldridge

BRUNSWICK – Gary Lynn Aldridge of Brunswick, Maine, passed away peacefully at his home of 20 years on Sept. 7, 2025, under the care of his husband and the amazing staff of Chans Hospice.

He was born in Oregon on Sept. 22, 1940 and raised in the town of Amity by magnificent parents Sterling and Lucille Bagley Aldridge. He grew up on a small farm which started a lasting love for animals and an interest in advocating for them on national and local levels.

From an early age, a pertinacious Gary hosted a radio show and wrote a newspaper column on issues facing young people and was active in 4-H and dreamed early of raising Angus cattle He attended the University of Oregon in Eugene to become a journalist until he won a writing contest that awarded an internship in Public Affairs at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, which he turned into a position for nearly a decade. He later worked for non-profits in some former residences, including New York City and Shepherdstown WV. However, most of his career was spent in Washington DC as an aide to both Oregon Senator Wayne Morse, and later Senator Alan Cranston, until Gary retired in 1993.

He was predeceased by his parents and siblings Sterling, Lamar and Charlene.

He loved rescuing his cats and his dog and volunteering with various rescue organizations. He loved cooking exotic foods and travelling the globe, as he remained curious about the world until the end.

He is survived by his loving partner and spouse of nearly 25 years, James Core. He will be lovingly remembered by his closet friends, Roger Klinger of Fairview, NC, Jim and Penny Manion of Shepherdstown, WV, Sally Haley of Brunswick and everyone who ever got to know him. He wanted to thank the dedicated team on Dr. Jessica Faraci’s staff.
