How can you determine the reliability of news content? And why is it so easy to fall for misinformation? How can you remain an informed citizen without becoming overwhelmed?
Rockland Public Library will host “News Engagement in the Digital Age: Dealing with Misinformation,” a workshop with Judith Rosenbaum-Andre, Ph.D., at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, in the Community Room.
Rosenbaum, a professor and chairperson of the Department of Communication and Journalism at the University of Maine, will lead the interactive workshop to critically examine news and misinformation.
Rosenbaum conducts research focused on understanding how people actively use media content in their daily lives and how this usage is related to their identities, relationships and perceptions of reality. Her work has appeared in publications such as “Media Psychology,” “Communication Research,” “Psychology of Popular Media Culture,” “Communication Teacher” and “Journal of Media Psychology.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
You can read more here about our commenting policy and terms of use. More information is also found on our FAQs.
