Patricia “Pat” Barnes Moody

HARPSWELL – Patricia “Pat” Barnes Moody, 92, passed away on Aug. 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born Jan. 4, 1933, to Henry and Louise (Britt) Barnes. She was predeceased by her brother, George W. Barnes.

Pat was born, lived and worked in Harpswell for most of her life. She graduated from Gorham State Teachers College in 1955 and earned her Master’s of Education degree from USM in 1981. Pat was a dedicated elementary school teacher for 40 years. Thirty-eight of those years were spent at West Harpswell Elementary school. She loved teaching and her students loved her because she saw potential in each and every one. Her own children and two of her grandchildren were lucky enough to be among the hundreds of students whose lives she touched.

She became a member of the Elijah Kellogg Church as a teenager and volunteered countless hours there over her lifetime. She was also an active member of the Midcoast Retired Educators Association serving on the board up until a short time before her death.

Pat was an avid reader and played a mean game of Scrabble. She was an extraordinary cook and was well known for her delicious baked goods. She especially loved her home on Lookout Point and delighted in the view of the ocean, boats, and sunsets from her living room window.

Pat is survived by her daughter, Vicki Stevens and husband Bob, her son, David and wife Patty, her son, Rick; grandchildren Jessica (Stevens) Kowalik and husband Sean, Jenny (Stevens) Solari and husband Dan, Corey Allen, Hannah Moody, Ella Moody, and Ava Moody; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
