A Berwick man was killed and his passenger was injured when his ATV crashed Thursday evening, the Maine Warden Service said.
Tyler Anderson, 31, was driving the Polaris ATV on a trail near Hall Road when he veered off the trail, hit an embankment and rolled, officials said.
Anderson was taken by helicopter to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, New Hampshire, where he died a short time later.
The passenger sustained facial injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening, the warden service said.
An initial investigation indicates that excessive speed for the terrain likely contributed to the crash, but the warden service is continuing to investigate.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
