Jeffery Norman Pickering
HOULTON – Jeffery Norman Pickering, 75, of Houlton, passed away Aug. 13, 2025 at the Northern Light Medical Center in Bangor.
He was born on Nov. 18, 1949, in New Haven, Conn., the son of Sherwood Earl Pickering and Delice Verville Pickering. His family moved to South Portland in 1951, then to Belfast in 1954. Jeff attended Belfast schools until entering Phillips Exeter Academy where he graduated in 1968. He then attended the University of Maine obtaining his bachelor’s degree and law degree. He practiced law in Houlton for many years until his death.
Jeff was predeceased by his parents; and his ex-wife, Leda.
He is survived by his siblings Linda Pickering Dunson (Keith), Roger Sherwood Pickering, David Earl Pickering, Alan Charles Pickering (Sandy Mattson), Dennis Edward Pickering (Ellen Kornetsky); and many nieces and nephews. He is survived by many MacDougall cousins in Maine and New Hampshire.
He was a loving godfather to his niece, Jessica Dunson-Todd and her children Malcolm and Stella. He will be missed by many friends in Houlton. His clever and playful humor was imbued by obvious intelligence, a deep compassion for others and a wisdom born of his own past struggles. Jeff had a profound appreciation and respect for animals and he treated his pets like family members.
