Paul Vincent Casey

CAPE ELIZABETH – Paul Vincent Casey, 71, of Cape Elizabeth, beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and friend, passed away peacefully on Aug. 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by family.

Paul was born on June 5, 1954, in Lexington, Mass. to William and Rita Casey and graduated from St. Francis College (UNE) in 1975. He left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. A devoted husband, proud father and grandfather, inspiring teacher and coach, and loyal friend, Paul lived a life rooted in connection and joy.

Paul found happiness in the simple pleasures—skiing down any mountain, hiking wooded trails, running numerous marathons in his earlier years and spending time outdoors in Gilead with his beloved Labrador retrievers and wife Sandra. A lifelong Red Sox fan, he cheered every pitch with unwavering optimism, sharing his passion for the game with his boys. He always looked forward to opening day at Fenway Park.

As a teacher, coach and mentor for 39 years with 24 of them being at Cape Elizabeth Middle School, Paul inspired countless students and athletes. His classrooms and cross-country trails were places of encouragement, integrity, and laughter. He believed in his students, more often than they believed in themselves, and gave his time generously to help them succeed.

Paul had a big heart and an even bigger capacity for friendship. He found connections with strangers, listened without judgment, and made everyone feel valued. His warmth and humor brought light to every room he entered.

Above all, Paul cherished his family. He was a loving and supportive husband, a steady and proud father, and a doting grandfather who never missed a chance for a story, a hug, or a laugh. His love for them was constant and deep, the foundation of his life.

Paul leaves behind a world better for having known him and a family who will forever carry his spirit forward.

Paul is survived by his wife, Sandra Brown-Casey; sons Adam Casey and wife Cindy, and Ryan Casey and wife Heather, stepson, Ryan Lagan and wife Caitlin; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Christopher and Harper. He is also survived by his siblings, Janet Blythe and husband Mark; and Mark Casey and wife Barbara, along with their two daughters, Erin and Allison.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his late wife, Elizabeth Kavanaugh-Casey.

A mass and celebration of Paul’s life will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Church, 8 Two Lights Rd., Cape Elizabeth at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 with a reception to follow at Inn by the Sea, 40 Bowery Beach Rd., Cape Elizabeth.
