ORR’S ISLAND – Malcolm McFarland, 84, of Orr’s Island, passed away on July 31, 2025. He was a beloved husband to Marjorie “Marnie” for 60 years, and beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Born Dec. 16, 1940, Malcolm proudly served in the U.S. Navy before beginning a career in sales with the Eaton Corporation, from which he retired in 2010.
He served in his communities as a selectman in Moreland Hills, Ohio; as a Boy Scouts of America Scoutmaster; a board member of the Whitpain Township Historical Society; a board member of the Orr’s and Bailey Yacht Club; a board member and auctioneer for the Orr’s and Bailey Islands Fire Department; a member of Islands Community Church, Bailey Island, and All Saints Chapel, Orr’s Island; and a volunteer food delivery driver for Harpswell Aging At Home.
Malcolm enjoyed working with his hands to fix almost any problem. His knowledge of American antiques was extensive; he was regularly requested to appraise, restore, repair, and lecture about historic furniture. Malcolm was a long time member of the Maine Antiques Dealer Association.
His recreational activities included travel, fishing, target shooting, and antiquing. Most of all, Malcolm cherished spending time with his family and friends. He was a gifted storyteller; some true and some fabricated, and embraced his inner curmudgeon.
Casco Bay Cremation Services was honored to handle Mr. McFarland Jr.’s arrangements.
