A pedestrian was struck by a motorist while crossing Lewiston Road in New Gloucester on Saturday evening. The pedestrian died of her injuries, said the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
On Aug. 16 at about 8:40 p.m., the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and New Gloucester Fire Department responded to the report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the area of 1100 Lewiston Road in New Gloucester. Upon arrival, responders found that Gray resident Stacy Strattard, 64, was crossing the road when she was struck by a 2016 Ford Fusion. The vehicle was operated by Mukendi Mbiya, 49 and of Lewiston. The Maine Forest Service assisted at the scene.
Strattard died of her injuries sustained in the crash.
The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and the Gorham Police Department Crash Reconstruction Unit are investigating the crash, and the Maine Forest Service assisted at the scene. Driver impairment was not a factor in this crash, said the Sheriff’s Office, and the investigation remains ongoing.
