Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Labonte) Pennell
BRUNSWICK – Elizabeth M. “Betty” (Labonte) Pennell passed away on August 10, 2025, at Mid Coast Senior Health Center.
She was born in Brunswick, Maine on June 18, 1932, where she spent much of her childhood and attended school. Betty married the love of her life, William “Bill” Pennell, on June 22, 1952. They were happily married for 67 years, until Bill passed away in 2020.
Betty was active in her church, All Saints Parish – St Charles Church, where she used her considerable creative skills tirelessly working on the church fair for 47 years. She enjoyed many artistic activities including being an accomplished quilter, making many quilts as cherished gifts and for charity over the years, including donations to Mid Coast Hospital. Betty had a deep love for reading and both worked and volunteered at the Topsham Library. She was also a constant at the Topsham voting polls and worked in the purser’s office of the Topsham Fair every season for many years.
Many people may not have known Betty by name, but her daily habit garnished her the nickname of The Walking Lady of Topsham.
She leaves behind her daughters, Katherine Fandetti (Bob Fandetti) and Barbara Croston (Tom Croston); her granddaughters Elizabeth Croston and Hilary Clayton; and great grandchildren, Benjamin and Perri Clayton.
Betty was proceeded in death by her parents, Pierre and Elizabeth Labonte, and her husband, William Pennell.
There will be a private family internment at Riverview Cemetery in Topsham at a later date.
Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Stetson’s Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 12 Federal Street, Brunswick, Maine.
