Rotarians to meet, collect school supplies

Westbrook-Gorham Rotary will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 19, in the dining room at Westbrook Regional Vocational Center, 125 Stroudwater St., Westbrook.

“We will welcome back Neillie Young. She is a Marshwood High School Interact student who led a school project in Peru that our club supported,” Rotary Secretary Christine Johnson reported. “She will be providing an update and sharing a new project that she is working on.”

The Rotary Club will not meet on Aug. 26 or Sept. 2 as the vocational center gears up for the new school year.

Rotary is collecting school supplies for the Westbrook Community Policing Office serving the Frenchtown neighborhood. Officer Megan Perry is based there, as is Rotary member Missy Esty. They distribute school supplies before school starts and host a steady stream of kids for after-school homework assistance.

Rotary member Kathi Perkins will collect donations at the Aug. 19 meeting.

“Items always needed are pencils, pens, single-subject wire-bound notebooks, calculators (both simple and basic scientific), glue sticks, pencil cases, and colored pencils,” Johnson said. “If you see some deals and want to assist, pick them up and bring them to a meeting.”
