A wildfire that has burned 30 acres in a Down East town along the Canadian border is 20% contained, the Maine Forest Service said on Monday.
There is no threat to structures or the public from the fire off Track Road in Baileyville, on the Canadian/New Brunswick border, the forest service said.
The forest service announced on social media Sunday evening that crews were on scene “working on putting a line around the fire with heavy equipment. The fire was about 21 acres at that point, they estimated, with none of it contained.
On Monday, it had grown to about 30 acres but was 20% contained, the forest service said, and crews were working to install “saw lines and a hose lay.”
“A dozer line was constructed overnight and a burnout operation was conducted to clean up the fires edge,” the forest service stated. “Crews will continue to be on scene over the next week.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
