A fire damaged two adjacent Biddeford homes Thursday afternoon, with the blaze caving in the roof of one building.
The roof of 10 Brackett St. caved in as the Biddeford Fire Department and neighboring agencies attempted to douse the flames. Wind also spread the fire next door to 12 Brackett St.
Fire crews were called to the scene around 4 p.m., Ken Thorpe, Biddeford’s assistant fire chief, said in a statement Friday. The first firefighters at the scene reported a large fire at the back of the three-story building at 10 Brackett St.
Everyone in the building got out safely, Thorpe said.
Then, firefighters navigated to the roof of 12 Brackett St. after wind carried the flames next door.
The fires were out by 8 p.m., Thorpe said, though crews worked into the night to put out hot spots.
Ladder trucks from Sanford, Saco, Scarborough, Kennebunk, Old Orchard Beach and Westbrook also responded. In total, 11 fire companies were on scene, Thorpe said.
Two firefighters were transported to the hospital due to heat exhaustion and were later released.
A cause has yet to be determined, Thorpe said, and the State Fire Marshall Office is investigating.
