Claire D. Verreault
OLD ORCHARD BEACH – Claire Diane Verreault, of Old Orchard Beach, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, with her family at her side, one day after her 85th birthday.
She was born in Lewiston on July 28, 1940, the daughter of Henri and Angelina (Lepage) Domingue. She attended St. Dominic School, and graduated from Lewiston High School, Class of 1958. It was during her time in high school that Claire met her future husband, Paul Verreault. As the story goes, Claire and Paul met in detention for excessive talking and became high school sweethearts from that day forward.
The couple was married on May 23, 1959, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston. They began their life together in Lewiston where they raised five children: Michael, John, Steven, Debra, and Jeffrey. In 1975, fulfilling a lifelong dream to live by the ocean, Claire and Paul purchased a motel in Old Orchard Beach. They enjoyed running the business and formed lasting friendships with many guests who returned year after year. Claire continued to operate the motel for over 50 years.
Claire enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life. In her early years, she loved roller-skating, dancing, and bargain shopping. Over time, she developed a passion for golf, which she shared with Paul. She was known for her fun-loving personality and her enthusiasm for adventure. She also took great joy in entertaining friends and family. Claire and Paul were fortunate to travel often, with the Caribbean and Florida being among their favorite destinations. They eventually purchased a home in Pompano Beach, Florida, where they spent many happy winters.
Above all, Claire cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Verreault; her parents, Henri and Angelina Domingue; her stepmother, Bertha Vaillancourt Domingue; her brothers, Gilbert and Richard Domingue; and her dear friend and companion, Richard O’Brien.
Claire is survived by her five children: Michael Verreault and his wife Wanda, John Verreault and his wife Kimberly, Steven Verreault and his wife Maureen, Debra Seale, and Jeffrey Verreault and his wife Candace. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Jacob, Andrew, Kaitlin, Mollie, Jillian, Cameran. Alan, and Thomas; her great-granddaughter, Lilly; and her sister, Lorraine Rousseau.
Visitation will be held from 11a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel in Saco. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco.
