Beverly Joanne (Slocum) Marion
SALT SPRINGS, Fla. – Beverly Joanne (Slocum) Marion, 91, of Salt Springs, Fla., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 16, 2025 after a lengthy illness. She was born Sept. 8, 1933 to Walter E. Slocum and Irene W. Tufts in Portland.
She worked at several establishments throughout her lifetime including Freeport Shoe, L.L. Bean, North Pownal Store, Napier’s Store in Pownal Center, The Outlet at Sabbathday Lake, New Gloucester and Crystal Lake Concessions in Gray, Benson and Sullivan Wholesalers of Auburn, and lastly, retiring after 20 years as a cake decorator for Publix Supermarkets in Florida.
As a side note, she was mentioned in Stephen King’s book, “Dead Zone”. Not by name, but as the person working in the North Pownal Store. We’ll leave that for you to find!
She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Ned E. Marion; brothers Gordon “Sonny” Slocum and Robert Slocum, sisters Shirley Bennett and Arlene Newell.
She is survived by her son, Scott Gibbs and wife Linda of Salt Springs, Fla., daughters Patricia Camp and her husband Wally of Falmouth, and Sandra Dufresne and her husband Lucien of Williamstown, Vt.; her husband Ned’s children and grandchildren, six direct grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9, at Elmwood Cemetery in Pownal with a celebration of life following the service.
