Nancy Ann Ziehler
PORTLAND – Nancy Ann Ziehler passed away in the early morning hours on July 19, 2025, at the Barron Center with staff at her side.
Born in Westbrook on April 6, 1940, to Eugene and Dorothy Taylor Cyr, Nancy was the oldest of six children.
She grew up in Windham. She went to Windham schools, graduating from Windham High School in 1958. After high school she attended business school. During that time she she met Lawrence Ziehler. On June 17, 1961, she married the love of her life Lawrence L. Ziehler. They were married for 54 years at the time of Lawrence’s death.
Nancy and Lawrence lived in Portland for many years before they built a house Windham. She worked for several decades at Fairchild Semi-Conductor, also known as National Semi-Conductor. Nancy traveled a lot for work. She worked in handling and shipping until her retirement.
Nancy and Lawrence were members of the Windham Friends Church. They helped put on Bean suppers for the church.
Nancy enjoyed painting, rubber stamping sewing, ceramics and many other crafts. Nancy was involved in many community organizations like The East Windham Ladies Fire Auxiliary, The Masons, The rose Society.
At Windham’s 250th celebration Nancy and Lawrence were key participants in forming the NEW marble Head Militia. They helped organize and run shoots, all over Maine and beyond. The black powder shoots were successful.
Nancy was very talented painter and has produced many water colors that have been admired by many. She many times gifted her paintings and novelty pieces to friends. She was also a seamstress making many of her clothes such as her militia costumes.
Nancy is survived by sisters Doris Bicknell of Windham, Marilyn Murch and her husband Kenneth of Windham, and a brother Wayne Cyr and his wife Nancy in Daytona, Fla.; nieces Michelle Murch of Windham, Caryn Bicknell of Windham, Bethany Anon and her husband Danny and their two children Junie and Olivet from Orlando, Fla. Nephews are Michael and his wife Julie and their children Paige and Derrick, Nathan Cyr from Orlando, Fla., Taylor Cyr and his wife Marcia and their children Judah and Penny from Birmingham Ala., Timothy Cyr and his wife Jade and their children Aria and Adam, Tanner Cyr and his wife Jade from Apopka, Fla.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents and two sisters, Marie Cyr and Jeannie Casey.
At Nancy’s request there will be no public services. Family will be having a private service at a site chosen by Nancy.
