Adele Maria

PORTLAND – Adele Maria, 94, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2025.

Born on Feb. 17, 1931, to Mishel and Blanch Kahill, Adele spent 89 years in Portland, where she raised her four children: John, Jean, Kathleen, and Annette. She had a vibrant spirit and a deep love for her community. Whether she was dining at her favorite local spots or enjoying a festive parade, she embraced life with enthusiasm and a warm smile for everyone she met.

A people person through and through, Adele never met a stranger. She had a gift for conversation and a fondness for flair—especially when it came to the color red. From clothing accents to her red nails, red was always her signature.

A lifelong woman of faith, Adele first attended Saint Paul’s Anglican Church in Portland on March 10, 1946, and remained connected to the church, continuing to attend virtually after moving to Texas.

In 2020, Adele and her daughter Kathleen moved to Texas to be closer to her son, John. While she often said she didn’t miss the cold Maine winters, she was just as quick to remind everyone that Texas summers were “too hot!” with a smile on her face.

Adele is survived by her daughters Annette Palanda, Jean Maria, and Kathleen Maria, her son, John and his wife Cindy; her grandson, Steve Maria and his wife Jodi; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Ellie.

In honor of Adele, the family asks that those attending her service wear something red, her favorite color, as a tribute to her vibrant spirit.

Services for Adele will be held on Saturday, Aug. 2, at 9 a.m. Funeral at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, 279 Congress St., Portland, 10:30 a.m. Burial at Forest City Cemetery, 232 Lincoln St., South Portland, at 12 p.m. Reception at Saint Paul’s in the parish hall
