Albert Emile Carignan

BIDDEFORD – Albert Emile Carignan, 90, passed away quietly Sunday evening on July 20, 2025. He was born Sept. 8, 1934, to Albert and Germaine Carignan of South Portland. He grew up in Thornton Heights and had a close relationship with his grandfather Archille Carignan.

He was a proud Chevarian and was the first class to graduate from the new school on Ocean Avenue in 1952. In 1956 he graduated with a degree in Accounting from Boston College. He was as proud to be BC Eagle as much as he was a Cheverus Stag. As an older teenager and young man, he often drove for his grandfather’s trucking company, the Rangeley Lakes Express.

After college, he served in the Army and was stationed in Germany, where he was able to travel all over Western Europe from Belgium to Italy. Discharged, he worked for the GAO and IRS and married his love, Jaqueline Nadeau of Auburn in 1960 with whom he shared this life for 65 years.

He went into private accounting and earned his CPA. Supporting small local businesses was an important part of his practice. He was appointed to the Maine State Board of Accountancy by Governor Joseph Brennan.

His underlying purpose and drive in life was compassion for fellow man with his decades of Rotary membership focused on service to the Saco and Biddeford community and the world at large. He was a past president of the Biddeford Saco Rotary Club and a founding member of the Saco Bay Rotary Club. He was awarded with Rotary’s highest award, The Paul Harris Fellow, twice. He was instrumental in the building of Rotary Park and the bike path along the Ferry Road in Saco. He was also a member of the Saco School Board and very active in Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. His membership in many community boards of directors included: the St. Andre’s Group Homes, Catholic Diocese Human Relations Services, and the Biddeford Savings Bank.

He always had time for each of his boys, no matter the diverse interests be them sports, Scouts or model trains. He would come home from work can get down to the floor and play with his boys when they were little and took the family on many a memorable camping trips when they were older. He loved everyone of his daughters-in-law and rightly assumed they made “his boys” better men.

In his later years, he loved to travel with Jackie; a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, trips to Aruba and travels to Europe.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jaqueline, four sons: Michael and his wife Stephanie, Peter and his wife Barbara, Robert and his wife Margaret and Christopher and his wife Christina as well as 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Richard (Uncle Dickey) and Marthe Shriver and his very close cousin Robert (Uncle Bob).

Calling hours will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 from 4-7 p.m., at Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco. A private family committal with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
