Rotary paints U.S. map at Canal School

Canal School students in Grades K-4 will find a new addition to their playground when school resumes after summer vacation. A map of the United States has been painted on the pavement.

The Westbrook-Gorham Rotary Club contributed the artistic work.

The map was produced to inspire “learning and play,” the club said in a printed statement. Kim Carignan, club president,  presented the innovative idea to the club’s board that “enthusiastically” accepted it and brought the idea to Canal Principal Vickie Hebert.

This month, Rotary Vice President Eli Small took the lead in producing the project. “With his coordination and the hard work of many Rotarians, the project quickly moved from concept to reality,” the club said. “The project not only beautifies the playground, but also provides an educational tool for years to come.”
