William “Bill” D. Swetland
SACO – William “Bill” D. Swetland, 82, of Saco, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at his home.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on March 21, 1943, son of William and Dorothy (Bourne) Swetland. He was a member of Kennebunk High School, Class of 1961.
Bill’s professional career spanned over 60 years in the insurance industry, culminating as President of Casco Indemnity Company.
A die-hard Cleveland baseball fan, he faithfully followed the Indians/Guardians hoping to see a World Series championship victory. His love of baseball extended to coaching youth baseball throughout his adult life. Bill enjoyed playing golf, and was a member at the Dunegrass Golf Club. Bill also loved spending time in his workshop and took great pride in home projects throughout his life.
Above all, Bill loved spending time with friends and family. Throughout his life and travels, people were naturally drawn to his warm, affable nature that made him the life of any gathering. He will be dearly missed by many.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Scaraville) Swetland of 32 years; his three children, Jeff Swetland with wife Jennifer, Nicole Burton, and Matthew Swetland; his grandchildren, William, Alexandra, Nathaniel, Jack, and Daniel; his brother, Dudley Swetland with wife Sharon, and his stepbrother Brian Newpher; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his first wife, JoAnn (St. Ours) Swetland; his half-brother, Gregory Swetland, and his stepbrother, Rick Newpher.
