Shirley I. (Staples) Pouliot
BATH – Shirley I. (Staples) Pouliot passed away on July 16, 2025 at 87 years old. She was born Jan. 11, 1938 in Bath to Marjorie B. “Madge” Knight Staples and Charles M. Staples.
Shirley was predeceased by her parents; and 17 brothers and sisters (she was the last surviving sibling); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was also predeceased by her husband, Joseph R. “Butch” Pouliot after 35 years of marriage; and by her son, Robert Alan Delong (from her first marriage to Wayne Delong).
She is survived by her son, Robert J. Pouliot-Harden (John Harden) of Albany, N.Y.; and two nephews that she raised, Russel L. “Rusty” Myatt of Brunswick and Shawn D. Myatt of Dresden; as well as her grandchildren, Nina Myatt, Dejioun and Alikaisha Harden, Brady, Ethan and Taylor Myatt; and her great-grandchildren, Hannah Myatt and Anthony Harden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
While Shirley lived the last few years of her life in Albany, N.Y., she was proud of her Maine roots, her City of Bath (which was home no matter where she lived), and the Staples/Nelson Clan. She never failed to proudly let you know about any of them!
She attended Bath Schools and even though she didn’t graduate, she was an ardent supporter of Morse High School, betting with one of her nephews for years that Morse would win the football game against Brunswick!
Shirley worked for most of her life in local shoe factories, Maine Shoe, Auerbach, and lastly, Eastland, from which she retired from after 27 years when the factory closed.
Shirley will be missed by many and she goes on to her rest with love and well wishes.
