Harry Irving Chaplin
JULIETTE, Ga. – Harry Irving Chaplin, 82, formerly of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Westbrook, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, in Juliette, Ga.
Born on April 29, 1943, in Lewiston, Harry, known to many as “Butch”, was the son of Irving and Violet (Gagne) Chaplin.
Harry spent his career as a history teacher and vice principal at Windham Junior High School, where he was both revered and feared as a disciplinarian. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, spending time outdoors and being with his pets. A staunch Republican, he loved a good debate. Over the past 20 years, he found community and camaraderie playing pool and cards with fellow Mainers and new friends in Florida, but he always looked forward to his summer fishing trips back on the lakes of Maine.
He is survived by his wife, Lynn Roberts; daughters Kim Baretta (Julian) of Hilton Head, S.C., and Wendy Woloshchuk (Michael) of Monson, Mass.; and grandchildren Mitchel, C.J., Allie, and Jules, who called him “Papa”. He is also survived by his sister, Judie Weir; a niece, a nephew, cousins; and his extended family, Kresha Tisdale, Jody Roberts, as well as their children and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 13, at Bruno’s, 33 Allen Ave., Portland, from 4 to 6 p.m. All are welcome. and a Celebration of Life will be held in Port Charlotte, Fla (date to be determined).
Monroe County Memorial Chapel 86 West Main St., Forsyth, Ga., has charge of the arrangements.
