Brunswick is looking for public feedback on a comprehensive plan that will guide the town’s land use over the next decade.
The draft plan was developed by the Comprehensive Plan Update Steering Committee through public meetings, community workshops and engagement opportunities. The public can read the plan and submit comments through a form at planbrunswick.org.
“This comprehensive plan update represents the collective vision of community members who contributed throughout our outreach efforts over the last six years,” steering committee Chairperson Emilie Schmidt said in a prepared statement.
The plan addresses land use, housing, economy, transportation and infrastructure, natural resources, marine resources, recreation, and cultural and historic preservation, according to a release from the town.
“We have worked to create a land use plan that balances Brunswick’s growth demands while preserving our natural resources to best meet the concerns raised by citizens to achieve our goal of keeping our town ‘One Brunswick, Beautifully Balanced,'” Schmidt said. “We now need to hear from all residents to ensure this plan truly reflects our shared priorities.”
The steering committee was created in 2019 to review and build on a comprehensive plan from 2008. The committee said throughout the six-year process, community input tended to focus on less growth, lower taxes and better natural resource protections. The draft plan designates areas for growth, limited growth and rural protection, and utilizes new zoning strategies to guide development.
Printed copies of the draft plan are available at the Planning Office in Town Hall and at Curtis Memorial Library. Public comments on the comprehensive plan are due by Aug. 14. Residents can contact the Brunswick Planning Office for more information.
