Charles E. Thompson

GORHAM – Charles E. Thompson passed away on May 25, 2025 at Maine Medical Center. He was 69 years old, with his wife, Helen, son, John and Dolores at his side. He was born on Oct. 27, 1955 in Portland to June (Beeler) Thompson and Charles Beeler. At the age of 8, Charlie was adopted by John F. Thompson, and at the age of 8 he joined the Drum and Bugle Corps till he aged out at 21.

Charlie attended Portland Schools till he graduated in 1974. After he graduated Charlie joined the United States Marines Corps. where during his time there he became ill and was found to have heart trouble and received an Honorable Discharge. In 1998, Charlie had open heart surgery to have his aorta valve replaced.

Later, Charlie began driving Taxi Cab for many years until he he began his own taxi cab company called “CM Taxi”. Charlie then began driving for the South Portland Bus Service, Charter buses, and then for the Cape Elizabeth School Department which he loved for many years. He loved taking the students back and forth to school and to sporting events.

After retiring from the school department, Charlie tried to form a Drum and Bugle Corps here in Portland. There hasn’t been one her in over 35 years. But even through his efforts, he could not make it work. A short time later he was diagnosed with cancer along with his diabetes. After suffering for many years and treatments his heart could not take it any more and he was called home to be with the Lord.

Charlie was predeceased by his mother, June Thompson, his father, Charles Beeler, his adopted father, John Thompson; and his brother, Frederick Holt.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Thompson; a son, John Thompson; a sister, Nancy Korzeniowski, another sister, Marie Holt St. Michell, a half-brother, John Thompson; two biological granddaughters, Erin (Thompson) Stover, Alexis (Thompson) Stover and a affinity for grand-daughter, Hallie Stover; a nephew, Frederick Rheaume and many more aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, July 12, at 10 a.m., Faith Lighthouse Church, at 47 Smithwheel Road, Old Orchard Beach, followed by graveside proceedings at Pine Grove Cemetery at 12:30 p.m., at 9 Waites Landing Road, Falmouth.
