FAIRFAX, Va. – Alice (Cunningham) Spindler, M.D., died in her home in Fairfax, Va. on June, 21, 2025 at the age of 94 from complications of a perforated appendix.
She was born in Princeton, W.Va. in 1931 to Mamie and George Cunningham. After graduation from high school, she attended college in Maryland, and then went to medical school in California.
Alice started an Obstetrical and Gynecological practice in Brunswick. She married Richard Spindler, Sr., and continued working at Parkview Memorial Hospital and her practice in Brunswick for over 30 years.
She was actively involved in her church and multiple charities. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, travel, and visiting with friends. She moved to Virginia to be closer to family and lived there for five years.
She is survived by four children and stepchildren; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She has at least four nieces and nephews with children and grandchildren of their own.
There will be two services: first in Fairfax, Va. at Demaine Funeral Home on Aug. 16 at 1 p.m.; second in Brunswick at the SDA Church on Aug. 31 at 2 p.m.
