A person was killed by a train in downtown Biddeford early Saturday morning, officials said.
At approximately 4:50 a.m., a CSX train struck a trespasser who was on the tracks near Main Street, said CSX spokesperson Sheriee Bowman. York County emergency personnel responded to the scene and later reported that the individual on the tracks had been fatally injured.
“CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident and will continue to support local law enforcement as they complete the investigation,” wrote Bowman in an email to the Portland Press Herald.
No injuries to train crew were reported.
Officials did not immediately release any more information on the person who was killed.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
