Mary Ellis

TOPSHAM – Mary Ellen (McCarthy) Ellis, 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at the Governor King Memory facility at the Highlands in Topsham.

Born on June 30, 1939 in Melrose, Mass., she was the daughter of Daniel and Mary McCarthy.

She was a 1957 graduate of Saint Mary’s High School in Melrose.

After marrying her husband, Warren P. Ellis, in 1960, they moved to New Hampshire and eventually settled in Londonderry, N.H., where they remained until 2016. Mary worked as an administrator for Trombley Enterprises and Dead River Oil Company in Manchester, N.H. After retiring, Mary enjoyed her time traveling with family and friends. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and could often be seen in the stands at her grandson’s hockey games. She was an avid reader and enjoyed ceramics and aqua aerobics.

Mary’s wit and sense of humor will be missed by all of those who loved her.

Mary is survived by her three children, Ken Ellis and his wife Peg of Chesapeake, Va., Kevin Ellis and his wife Beth Scherr of Athens, AL and Lori Lussier and her husband Kirk of Topsham. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Warren Ellis, and her brothers, Daniel and John (Jake) McCarthy.

Mary’s family is incredibly appreciative and grateful to all of the wonderful staff at the Governor King Memory facility for their loving care and support throughout her journey and to CHANS hospice staff and volunteers for their kind and caring support.

A funeral service will be held on July 22, at 11 a.m. at Saint Charles Borromeo Church, 132 McKeen St., Brunswick. Interment will follow at St. John Catholic
