Jack Freeman Reetz
ARUNDEL – Jack Freeman Reetz, B.S. ’56, M.B.A ’59, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025, at Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough.
Jack was born in San Jose, California, and raised in Belmont, California. Boy Scouts, Sea Scouts, and Yosemite summers provided superb early life experiences. He spent two pre-engineering years at (then) San Mateo Junior College and one semester at Cal. Berkeley. Thereafter, he served for four years as a Combat Engineer Officer in the 82nd Airborne of the U.S. Army. Four years of the G.I. Bill significantly aided the completion of Jack’s Berkeley education. 1962 found Jack in San Francisco and fortuitously meeting Joyce, a lovely recent graduate from the Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing. Marriage in 1964 was followed by the birth of their two children, Elena and Jack Jr. During Jack’s career, he spent 27 years with Honeywell. In the beginning years, he worked in San Francisco, then in Los Angeles. Eventually, Jack transferred to the Boston area in 1967 as a System Software Development and Support Manager.
Later, he was a Program Manager of System Software Development for early Honeywell mainframe, mid-scale, and small computer operating systems, which included their testing before release, and follow-on customer support. Subsequently, NYNEX (now Verizon) offered him new opportunities to design and implement early local area network cable and fiber-optic systems. Residing in Acton, Mass., for 35 years, Jack was an avid club-level tennis player. He served as president of Acton Indoor Tennis Association, a local non-profit club for some 25 years. Joyce, however, deserved full credit for raising their now-adult children.
Retirement to Arundel, in 2002 included volunteering on various town, county, and school district budget committees as well as building committees for over 20 years. In addition, he served as a School Board member during a difficult three-town consolidation into a single district.
Jack is survived by his wife, Joyce, son Jack Jr. and his wife, Paula, daughter Elena Leinweber, and her husband John, brother James Reetz, and his wife, Linda, and three nephews Troy Reetz, Vince Reetz, and James Reetz Jr. In addition, Jack, a proud Papa, is survived by three grandchildren Jack Reetz III, Owen Reetz, Collin Reetz, two great grandchildren, Taytum Reetz and Kylo Reetz as well as his beloved Orsini family.
