WEBSTER, Texas – Born in Orange, N.J., on Nov. 21, 1925, to William M. and Josephine Saltzer, William Charles Saltzer passed away on Jan. 13, 2024.
Bill served as intelligence man and interpreter in the 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific during World War II. He saw combat action and was promoted to Corporal. He served as First Lieutenant military intelligence in the Army Reserve during the Korean War.
Bill graduated from Irvington (N.J.) High School in 1943. He earned undergraduate and law degrees at Boston University and an MBA from Northeastern.
He worked as a contracts attorney for Raytheon, Sheraton, and Sanders Associates, and was proud of his contribution to Raytheon’s Patriot Missile Interceptor System.
Bill lived in Middletown, R.I., with his first wife, Janet, and their four children. He lived in Litchfield, N.H., and Dayton, Maine, with his second wife, Lorraine.
With a deep interest in history, he volunteered as a Lt. Colonel in the Artillery Company of Newport, R.I., and on the Dayton Zoning Appeals Board and Historical Preservation Committee.
Preceded in death by his wife Lorraine and stepson Roger Littlefield, Bill leaves behind children Maureen Saltzer, Fla.; William (Diane) Saltzer, Texas; Patricia Kidder, Co.; Tom Saltzer; N.M.; stepchildren Germaine Beaulieu and Kermit Littlefield; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery July 11.
