BELGRADE — State police arrested a Bath man Saturday after he allegedly shot his rifle close to multiple homes in Belgrade.
Just after 5 p.m. Saturday, Maine State Police troopers and Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residential area near Chandler Road and Point Road, where reports indicated a man was yelling and firing a rifle close to homes, Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a news release.
No property damage was reported. Neither were any injuries.
After a multi-agency coordinated response, Moss said police located and arrested William Bamford, 41, of Bath, and charged him with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, discharging a firearm near a dwelling, violating conditions of release, aggravated trafficking of a Schedule W drug and theft by unauthorized taking. He was taken to the Kennebec County jail.
State police were assisted by the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office and Belgrade Fire and Rescue.
If anyone witnessed the event or has relevant information, they are asked to contact Trooper David Wicks at 207-624-7076.
