Audrey P. Day

YARMOUTH – Audrey Perkins Day of Naples, Fla. and Yarmouth, Maine, died peacefully at home on Aug. 27, 2024.

She is survived by her husband, David Day; stepson, Thaddeus Day, his wife Holly and their three children; and her brother, Robert Perkins and his four children.

Audrey was born on Aug. 18, 1929, in Delta, Pa., with most of her youth spent living in Rutland, Vt. Having become an accomplished pianist by the age of 10, Audrey gained recognition for her musical talent in high school as drum major for the marching band and accompanying pianist for the glee club and chorus. She graduated from Green Mountain College, where she set a scoring record in women’s basketball. After marriage she lived in the Portland, Maine area and was well respected as the executive secretary for the Director of Nursing at the Maine Medical Center.

Audrey and her first husband, Joe Upham, became avid and skillful golfers which ultimately produced multiple club championships. Unfortunately, she lost her partner from brain cancer at the age of 49. After a lengthy period of grief, her golf skills helped bring happiness back when she was paired with David Day, another low handicapper, who would ultimately become her husband and life partner. Having a second home in Naples, Fla. in the golf community, Foxfire allowed them to have year round golf with great weather. Audrey was very active in the women’s golf organization, improving the level of play as well as the social aspects.

Off the golf course, Audrey displayed great artistic talent in her extensive creation of greeting cards and was active in the Women’s Exchange. Her interest in the performing arts resulted in her frequent attendance at the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts.

After several years of struggle with multiple medical issues which robbed her of much quality of life, Audrey died knowing that every member of her extended family loved her, and everyone whose path she crossed liked and admired her. On her final round the scorecard was attested to be well under par.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at the Pine Grove Cemetery (Route 9, North Yarmouth) at 3 p.m., followed by a reception.
