Amy Marie Olesen

PORTLAND – Amy Marie Olesen, 49, passed away June 15, 2025. The beloved daughter of Richard D. and Mary Ellen (Flynn) Olesen, she was born in Portland on March 25, 1976 and grew up in South Portland.

Her birth marked the beginning of a life filled with determination in spite of the challenges she faced. Her positive “can do” attitude astounded her family, friends, teachers, physicians, and support persons. She and her parents were often referred to as “trailblazers” in advocating for the needs and care of children with disabilities. Amy succeeded in her determination to live a life of joy and inclusion to the best of her ability.

Her favorite times were lap swimming, summers at Pine Tree Camp, singing songs (especially Peter, Paul, and Mary), attending school, singing at church, daily walks with family or staff around the neighborhood and community, and playing basketball with her brother and nephews.

After graduating from South Portland High School, she spent many years attending local Day Programs and living happily in a group home where she was supported by caring staff of 3 Rivers Inc.

Amy will be missed and lovingly remembered by her large extended family. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Andrew and Mary Olesen, and maternal grandfather, Bill Flynn Sr.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Ellen; brothers Matt (Aaryn, Wyatt, Ely) and Stephen; grandmother, Mary Jane Flynn; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

To everyone who touched her life, thank you so much. May the joy she brought to our world be treasured and remembered for always.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral is July 2, at 10 a.m., St. Maximillian Church, in Scarborough. Burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery, South Portland.
