Cousins Maine Lobster, the national food truck brand, has surpassed $1 billion in systemwide sales, according to a recent press release. The company’s first food truck launched April 2012 in Los Angeles by real-life cousins, and Mainers, Sabin Lomac and Jim Tselikis.
That fall, they appeared on the Shark Tank television program. Barbara Corcoran, a long-time investor on the show, invested $55,000 in exchange for 15% of the company.
Cousins Maine Lobster has since been franchised and grown to over 85 locations nationwide, including food trucks and brick-and-mortar fast-casual restaurants. Their one Maine food truck based in Portland is closed this summer, and it’s unclear if it will return in the future.
Lomac and Tselikis – both from southern Maine – are celebrating the company’s milestone. “This is an incredible moment, growing from a single food truck in Los Angeles to more than 85 units across the nation, we’ve brought the taste and spirit of Maine to diners nationwide — and built a franchise family along the way,” they are quoted as saying in the press release.
Cousins Maine Lobster plans to open over 30 more trucks in 2026. The press release stated each location averaged $1.3 million in 2024.
