PORTLAND – Marcie Elizabeth Young of Portland, Maine, died Monday June 9, 2025 at the age of 69 after a years long battle with a rare pulmonary disease (PPH). Known to friends and family as Tina, Miss Young is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Marcie Young and is survived by her sister Fay (Ray) and brother Charles of Madison, Conn.
Born on May 20, 1956, she spent her formative years in Athens Greece when her parents moved the family there in 1968.
She returned to the states in 1974 to attend the University of Connecticut where she received her degree as a performing artist in 1978 and then moved on to New York City to pursue a career as an actor and dancer. She found her way to Maine when George Vafiades asked her to join his year round company Acadia Repertory Theatre. From there Tina’s work in regional theatre grew.
Miss Young became an accomplished and celebrated regional actor with a gift for the classics and any kind of comedy. Her command of the stage was undeniable and her sense of storytelling masterful.
Tina was also a lover of all creatures great and small and a fiercely loyal friend and while she often said that she felt that she was born out of time and belonged in a more formal time. in the early 1980s she was part of a team that helped move the advertising giant Grey Advertising in New York, into the computer age.
By the power of three, she will be remembered for the joy that she brought to so many lives. Those who knew her well will remember with delight the Greek Easter dinners she would throw, the salon atmosphere that she created in her home. And they will remember how she laughed with her whole body until you just had to join in.
No plans have been announced for a memorial.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association or to your local regional theatre company are encouraged and can be made in memory of Tina Young
