Presumpscot River’s secrets
Secrets of the Presumpscot River is the topic at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at the North Gorham Public Library, 2 Standish Neck Road, Gorham. Michael Shaughnessy, of Westbrook, president of the Friends of the Presumpscot River, will speak.
“More than 100 years ago, the Presumpscot River was dammed at the Windham/Gorham town line and that stretch of river was transformed into Dundee Pond. Last summer, the dam malfunctioned and the water level had to be lowered so it could be repaired. As the water receded, the secrets lying below the surface for decades slowly revealed themselves, including the river itself,” a meeting announcement said.
Hear about and see some of the secrets that have been revealed. Local detectorist — someone who uses a metal detector as a hobby — Julie Caswell will show and discuss buried artifacts she found.
