Barry W. Sargent
BUXTON – On June 6, 2025, Barry W. Sargent, 80, a lifelong resident of Buxton, went home.
Born on Feb. 15, 1945, to Merton and Elizabeth (Knowlton) Sargent, Barry shared a wonderful childhood with his parents and siblings. He graduated from Bonny Eagle High School, class of 1963, and later graduated from the University of Southern Maine.
He married Elaine (Boulter) Sargent nearly 60 years ago on June 12, 1965. Together they built a beautiful life and family. After raising their kids, they enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel; the first of many trips was cross country to Alaska after he retired.
He enjoyed the Red Sox, Patriots, hunting and fishing, but most of all he loved his family. He was so proud of each and every one of them and made sure they knew it. He was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. There are many treasured memories of family time spent together – nothing meant more to him.
A man of few words, he had a quick wit and wickedly funny dry sense of humor. An avid runner, he ran the Maine Coast Half Marathon, Maine Coast Marathon, Casco Bay Marathon, Sugarloaf Marathon and twice ran the Boston Marathon. He was a member of the Masons and served as a past Master of Buxton Lodge No. 115. He also served in the Air National Guard during the Vietnam War.
He was predeceased by his parents Merton and Elizabeth Sargent; a sister, Jacqueline Sargent and his brother Bruce Sargent.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; daughters Lisa Charette (Norman), Lori Doustou (Chuck), and son Chris (Cathy) Sargent; his grandchildren Josh and Chandler Doustou, Mackenzie and Brady Messina and Kyle and Chase Sargent; his sister, Joleen (Olin) Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with Masonic Honors will be held at South Buxton Cemetery, 1187 River Rd, Buxton on June 20 at 10 a.m. Online condolence messages can be submitted to Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service website, http://www.mainefuneral.com.
Barry’s family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to his amazing caregivers from Coastal Care Solutions, the staff at MaineHealth Medical Center and the wonderful staff and volunteers at Gosnell House.
