Elinor Louise Doyle

SANFORD – Elinor Louise Doyle (Louise), 91, of Sanford, formerly of Raymond, passed away on June 3, 2025, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

Louise was born on June 8, 1933, to Hartwell P. and Elinor H. (Waterhouse) Fries. She graduated from Deering High School. Louise married William F. (Bill) Doyle and they were together for over 62 years until he passed away in May of 2016.

Louise is survived by her son Paul Doyle of Raymond, Mark Doyle and his wife Betsy of Lyman, her daughter Penny and her husband Chuck Thompson of Raymond; and her daughter Karen and her husband Jeff Bartholomay of Sanford. Louise leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Patrick, Erin, and Ben Doyle; Josh, Matt, and Brian Thompson; Andy, Scott, and Chris Doyle; Syri Friis and Adam Bartholomay; as well as 12 great grandchildren.

Louise spent many years as a Coast Guard wife raising their four children. She was a Girl Scout and Teen Club Leader as well as an avid bowler and gardener. After Bill’s retirement they made their home in Raymond where Louise was a volunteer EMT and ran many church suppers for the Raymond Community Church. When Covid hit in 2020 though housebound, Louise made masks to give away, and as long as her vision and arthritis allowed, she made booties and hats for neo-natal babies. Louise always tried to find a way to help others and give back to the community. She was a loving grandmother who was always happy to see her grandchildren and cook baked goodies for them. Louise adhered strongly to the adage that if you love someone, you feed them; and she was always thrilled to host a mob of family at whist tournaments.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Northern Lights Hospice, Hospice of Southern Maine, New England Rehabilitation Hospital of Portland and Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for the exceptional care they gave Louise in her last years and days. We could not have asked for more caring and professional care for Louise.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Hall Funeral Home, 165 Quaker Ridge Rd. Casco, ME. Condolences and tributes may be shared at http://www.hallfuneralhome.net.
