BANGOR – Stephen Wade Miller, 72, passed away April 30, 2025 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor following a brief battle with cancer. Stephen was born on Jan. 12, 1953. He was quickly adopted by Harry and Francis Miller.
Growing up, they called many Maine towns home from Presque Isle to Portland and many places in between. He loved keeping fish and reptiles, the latter would be much to the chagrin of his mother. He graduated from Brewer High School in 1971.
He spent his early adult life in Florida where he worked at many area hospitality establishments. He finally settled back in Maine and worked at many hotels and restaurants in the Portland area. He relocated to Bangor later in life.
He was a lover of adventure, history, politics, music, and pop culture. You’d be hard pressed to find a book he hasn’t read or a master artist he didn’t know about. He was passionate about fine art, in particular, painters. He knew all the works from our local Wyeth’s to Van Gogh and was a longtime member of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. He was even known to paint a little himself.
He was an excellent cook and never met a chili which was too spicy or a homemade pizza too saucy.
Stephen was predeceased by his mother and father Frances P. Miller and Harry W. Miller. He is survived by his sister, Lynn Spivey and her husband Bryan Spivey; nephew Kirk Cratty and his fiancée Jeanna DeMerchant; and a whole slew of extended family in New Jersey.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
