Addison DeRoche pitched a perfect game, striking out 18 batters, to lift top-ranked Cheverus to a 7-0 win over fourth-seeded Kennebunk in a Class A South softball semifinal Friday in Portland.

The defending state champion Stags (18-0), ranked No. 1 in the Varsity Maine Top 10, will face Gorham or Windham in the regional final at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s College in Standish.

Kennebunk, ranked No. 5 in the Varsity Maine poll, ends the year at 13-5.

Abby Kelly hit a two-run single in the first inning to give the Stags an early lead. DeRoche added an RBI double, and Hailey Lamontange had three hits, including an RBI single and a double. Delia Tremble also doubled for Cheverus.

BASEBALL

THORNTON ACADEMY 6, SCARBOROUGH 5: The Trojans scored in the top of the eighth inning to beat the defending state champion Red Storm in a Class A South semifinal in Scarborough.

No. 3 Thornton Academy (14-4) advances to face the winner of Saturday’s game between Biddeford and Marshwood in the Class A final at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s College in Standish. Scarborough ends the year at 16-2.

The Trojans, No. 3 in the latest Varsity Maine Top 10, scored four times in the top of the first inning and took a 5-1 lead in the second. Scarborough, the No. 2 team in the Varsity Maine poll, scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings.

Brennan Tabor was 3 for 4 for Thornton, and Cameron Cyr had two hits, including a triple.

Finn Coburn, Matt Fallona and Kaiden Carrell each had three hits for Scarborough.

GIRLS LACROSSE

WINDHAM 16, YARMOUTH 10: Grace Joly scored six goals and led a second-half surge by the second-seeded Eagles (15-1) in a Class A quarterfinal victory over the seventh-seeded Clippers (9-7) in Windham.

Abby Trainor added four goals and an assist, and Neve Ledbetter recorded three goals and three assists as Windham broke away from a 5-5 halftime deadlock.

Vivienne Corriveau led Yarmouth with four goals. Celia Zinman and Erica O’Connor both scored twice.

WELLS 13, ERSKINE ACADEMY 4: Caitlin Rooney scored five goals, including the 100th of her career, and the top-seeded Warriors (13-2) advanced to the Class C semifinals with a victory over the eighth-seeded Eagles (8-7) in Wells.

Izzy Leslie added four goals, Eva Talevi netted two goals, and Payton Maxon and Ellie Moore also scored for the Warriors. Wells goalie Carys Ramsey stopped nine shots.

Erskine got two goals from Belle Pelotte and one from Abbie McDonough and Brooke Blais.

GREELY 12, GARDINER/HALL-DALE 6: Eight players scored at least one goal for the fourth-seeded Rangers (9-6) in a Class B quarterfinal win over the fifth-seeded Tigers (9-6), at Cumberland.

Hadley Hatch led Greely with four goals. Jane Flynn added two goals, helping the three-time defending state champions advance to a semifinal against undefeated Freeport, the No. 1 seed.

Catherine Mansur scored four goals and set up another for Gardiner/Hall-Dale.

BOYS LACROSSE

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 17, HOULTON/HODGDON/GREATER HOULTON CHRISTIAN/PRESQUE ISLE 3: Zach Leinwand paced a balanced offense with five goals, leading the second-seeded Panthers (10-5) over the seventh-seeded Houlton co-op (8-5) in a Class C quarterfinal in Yarmouth.

NYA also got three goals from Greyson Reeves, and two goals from Deagan Nadeau, Gavin Thomas, Jake Thompson, Max Siebert. Nadeau also had three assists, Thomas set set up two goals, and Thompson and Siebert each had one assist.

Isaiah Ervin had a goal and two assists for Houlton.

SOUTH PORTLAND 12, PORTLAND 11: Paced by seven goals from Tadhg O’Donnell, the third-seeded Red Riots (11-4) edged the sixth-seeded Bulldogs (11-5) in a Class A quarterfinal in South Portland.

Ian House added four goals and an assist to help the Red Riots advance to a semifinal against No. 2 Thornton Academy. The game was close throughout, with South Portland holding a slim lead most of the way.

Andy Marvin put in seven goals and assist on two for Portland. Jonah Bryand and Howard Larsen both scored twice.
