Una Voce Chamber Choir will present its Spring 2025 Concert Series, “The Birds and the Bees,” at 7 p.m. Friday, June 13, and 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1 Middle St., Brunswick.
“The Birds and the Bees” is inspired by the playful and expressive songs of the Renaissance — an era when composers began writing music that closely reflected the emotions and images found in poetry. These early songs laid the groundwork for much of the choral music we enjoy today.
Although the concert includes only modern works, many pieces echo the charm and creativity of these Renaissance or madrigal styles. Audiences will hear music that brings words to life—sometimes through sound effects, unexpected harmonies, clever rhythms, or a touch of romantic humor. Most of the pieces are performed a cappella, creating an intimate and dynamic listening experience.
The program features music by a range of contemporary composers, including Norman Dello Joio, Morten Lauridsen, Georgiann Toole, Hyo-Won Woo, Carol Nicholeris, Joshua Shank and Christopher Hoh.
Tickets are $25 and available for purchase online at unavocechamberchoir.org or at the door. Children under age 18 are free.
