You might have noticed a bunch of new bylines on Press Herald stories in the last week. Those are our newsroom’s summer interns, joining us from colleges that stretch the length of the Eastern Seaboard, from Bowdoin to the University of Florida.

While we give them a crash course in working for a daily paper, they’ll be adding to our coverage of everything from food to breaking news over the next couple of months. Here’s a little more about them:

Ava Arepally is a sports intern from Atlanta, and a rising junior at Bowdoin College. She was most recently the sports editor of her college newspaper, The Bowdoin Orient.

Skyler Cummings, who grew up in Portland, is a features intern and a graduate student in environmental journalism at the University of Montana. She has published stories in the Missoula Current and Wesleyan Argus and produced a news radio show in western Montana.

Brianna Earle is a news intern from Templeton, Massachusetts, and a rising senior at Brandeis University, where she is studying international studies, American studies and journalism. She recently became features editor for Brandeis’ student-run independent paper, The Justice.

Lila Hempel-Edgers of Concord, Massachusetts, finished up an internship with our investigative team last week. She’s a rising senior at Northeastern University, where she is studying journalism, criminal justice and psychology.

Michelle Voicu is a business news intern from Boca Raton, Florida, and a rising junior at Duke University, studying public policy, and journalism and media. She serves as an editor at large for the Duke Chronicle, focusing on features, transportation and university news.
