Brunswick’s Pride Festival returns to the Town Mall next weekend to celebrate the Midcoast’s LGBTQ+ community.

Now in its fourth year, this Brunswick Pride is packed with events. There will be an all-day Queer Maker’s Market featuring local artists and creatives and 10 drag performances.

“[Brunswick Pride] is an inclusive space; we want everyone to feel welcome,” said Deanna Plaisted, social media manager for the Brunswick Pride Committee.

Portland-based drag personality Ophelia will be at the mic as emcee throughout the day. The full lineup will be announced on social media leading up to the festival.

Expect some furry friends to make an appearance, too, as the committee partnered with Midcoast Humane this year to show off some adoptable pups at the festival.

“The town green will be full” with more booths than ever for the Maker’s Market, Plaisted said. Portland-based Little Chair Printing will be live printing special-edition Brunswick Pride shirts.

When festival-goers need a break from exploring the booths, they can grab a bite at any of the local food trucks that will be set up on the Mall, or the fan-favorite popcorn station.

With an understanding of the rebellious roots of pride, the Pride Committee returned to the theme of “resistance” throughout its planning process this year, Plaisted said.

The event will be a celebration of “resistance and protest,” she said.

The committee partnered with anti-harassment group Prevention. Action. Change. to learn safety and de-escalation skills so everyone can be safe at the event, Plaisted said.

“It’s a day of celebration, and all people should feel comfortable,” she said.

Pride festivities begin at noon on June 14 at the Mall. More information is available on the Brunswick Maine Pride Instagram and Facebook pages. The committee is also accepting donations and sponsor sign-ups on its website.
