Elizabeth ”Betsey” G. Wilcox

SCARBOROUGH – Elizabeth ”Betsey” G. Wilcox, 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Nov. 16, 2024. Born on Feb. 28, 1930, in New Jersey, to F. Samual Grandin and Mabel Duncan Grandin, Betsey graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel Maine and Wesley College in Mass. She later went on to get her masters in education from the University of Maine in Portland. She taught in South Portland schools for many years.

She was predeceased by her first husband Glen P. Monaghan, husband Paul Wilcox Jr, her son Peter Monaghan and her brothers, Duncan and Douglas Grandin. She is survived by her sons, Philip Monaghan and his wife Sue of Scarborough and David Monaghan of St Augustine, Fla., daughter-in-law Sue Ellen Monaghan of South Portland and Paul’s children Stephanie Borsi and Adriene Ostrander both of New Jersey, her six grandchildren and eight-great grandchildren.

After their retirement, Betsey and Paul spent the winters in Florida and summers on Cape Cod. She loved bird watching, day trips in Florida and antique shopping. She continued to tend to her garden and still made her own jams and jellies. She was an avid lighthouse buff traveling to many lighthouses on both the West coast, East coast and abroad. She was a volunteer at St. Augustine lighthouse in Florida.

A graveside service is planned for June 21, at 1 p.m., with interment at the Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough.
