The U.S. Postal Service is celebrating the life of former first lady Barbara Bush with a commemorative stamp set for release just after what would have been her 100th birthday.

A dedication ceremony will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Ganny’s Garden in Kennebunkport. The event is free and open to the public.
Those interested in attending the celebration are encouraged to RSVP at usps.com/barbarabushstamp.
Bush served as first lady from 1989 to 1993 during George H.W. Bush’s presidency. She was a longtime Maine resident, spending her summers at the Bush compound at Walker’s Point in Kennebunkport.
Barbara Bush died in 2018 at the age of 92. She is remembered for her dedication to literacy and children’s health.
Her legacy remains in the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland and the George and Barbara Bush Center at the University of New England in Biddeford.
Kennebunkport will also celebrate Sunday on what would have been her 100th birthday.
The Kennebunkport Conservation Trust is hoisting a celebration as a part of a larger event from the Barbara Bush Foundation for Literacy, which will honor Bush’s centennial year around the country.
The celebration will kick off at 7 a.m. on Sunday with Barbara’s Beach Walk, a dog walk on Gooch’s Beach.
