A Regional School Unit 5 Board of Directors member will resign at the end of this school year before her term is up.

RSU 5 board member Cheyenne Farrell submitted her resignation letter to Superintendent Jean Skorapa and School Board Chairperson Michelle Ritcheson. Farrell wrote in her resignation letter that she could no longer serve in a way that aligns with the level of engagement and energy the role deserves.
“This has been a difficult decision, as I deeply value the work being done to support our schools and community,” Farrell wrote in her resignation letter.
Farrell wrote that she will continue serving on the 11-member board until June 11 to ensure a smooth transition, and she thanked the school board for the opportunity to serve. She could not be immediately reached this week for further comment.
According to Freeport Communications Director Pete Yezukevich, the town is seeking residents interested in serving on the RSU 5 board for an interim position that will last approximately four months until the municipal election in November 2025. The application deadline for the school board position is 6 p.m. on June 30.
The Freeport Town Council must fill vacant RSU 5 board positions until the next regular municipal election, said Town Manager Sophia Wilson during the Tuesday night Town Council meeting.
Farrell was elected to the school board in 2023, when she ran unopposed with Carolyn Jensen, who resigned last year on Nov. 1.
More information about the RSU 5 position and application can be found on the Freeport town website.
