Westbrook graduation nears

The high school will conduct graduation exercises at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 7, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

The class with 145 graduates will walk across the stage with each to be handed a diploma in an auditorium likely packed with family and friends.

Christmas in July raffle

Westbrook Historical Society has raffle tickets available for daily drawings in July with 31 opportunities to win $25, $50 or $100 with a $10 ticket, or 93 chances to win with three tickets, costing $25.

Daily drawings recorded live throughout July will be posted on the society’s Facebook page.

Those interested can view and print the calendar and tickets online by visiting westbrookmainehistoricalsociety.org/raffle. Participants can also stop by to pick up tickets or send a message to the historical society on Facebook or at westbrookmainehistorical@outlook.com for payment options or questions.

The society summer hours are 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday and Friday. Its headquarters and museum are located at the Westbrook Community Center, 426 Bridge St., and can be reached by calling 464-1119.

Police applauded

Westbrook Police Department members Detective Evan Haskell, School Resource Officers Jeremy Ruggiero and Brett Morava, and Mental Health Liaison Jo Freedman were honored in a public post from the Police Department.

“These four employees were recognized for their response and investigation into a reported threatening incident at the high school in December,” the department wrote on Facebook. “Because of their prompt and thorough investigation, to include extensive follow-up work, they were able to mitigate any potential threat to the school. Great work by all four employees on this case.”

Free park concert series

– has announced the free summer concert series begins Tuesday, July 1, from 6 to 8 p.m. featuring the Westbrook City Band in Riverbank Park, 677 Main St. The series winds up on Aug. 12.

Concertgoers are invited to bring their own lawn chair or blanket.

The Stephen W. Manchester Post 62 of the American Legion will host a cash barbecue with burgers, hot dogs and beverages available during concerts.

50 years ago

The American Journal reported on June 4, 1975, that Kathleen Post and Susan Travis would be hostesses in the Sunday service at Westbrook Universalist Church.
