As the school year comes to a close, Biddeford High School seniors are gearing up for graduation.
On Friday, June 6, the graduates will walk across the stage, accept their diplomas, and step into the future. All of the graduates have demonstrated remarkable resilience and academic excellence throughout their high school journey, Superintendent Jeremy Ray said.
“As these graduates prepare to enter the next chapter of their lives, they carry with them not only a strong educational foundation but also the character and determination that will serve them well in college, careers, and as contributing members of the community,” Ray said.
One of those outstanding graduates is Eliza Doyon.
Recently, Doyon became one of four recipients to receive the 2025 FedPoint Nursing Scholarship, which grants her $5,000 in recognition of her academic excellence and commitment to a nursing career.
The scholarship program was developed after the COVID-19 pandemic, when FedPoint, a benefits marketplace operator, realized the need to encourage and support young people going into the nursing profession.
Chosen from a field of over 100 applicants, Doyon stood out to the selection committee for her work ethic, academic rigor, desire to help others, and commitment to the field of nursing.
Brian Frankenfield, executive sponsor of corporate giving at FedPoint, said it was a “no brainer” to award Doyon the scholarship.
“We’re really happy to award Eliza this year,” Frankenfield said. “She really fit the profile. We commend her and the other recipients for choosing a career focused on helping others in the community.”
As a high school senior, Doyon has already taken several medical courses and received her Certified Nursing Assistant certification this week, allowing her to gain more patient care experience this summer before attending college in the fall.
The nursing assistant program at the Biddeford Regional Center of Technology was instrumental in her success, Doyon said.
“I’ve seen the impact that nurses can have and the empathy for patients and families,” Doyon said.
Over the summer, Doyon plans to work as a nursing assistant, where she’ll be able to build upon the skills she learned as a Biddeford High School student.
In the fall, Doyon will attend St. Anselm College for nursing, with the intention of starting as a neonatal intensive care unit nurse and working her way to anesthesia nursing.
The scholarship from FedPoint, she said, will help her during her time at St. Anselm as she works toward becoming a registered nurse.
“It’s an honor to receive a scholarship that’s dedicated to the line of work I’m hoping to do,” Doyon said.
