How hard could it be to glue bits of paper and other materials to a flat surface?
Maine Art Gallery will host a talk to answer just that at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 5. “Collage: The Sum of its Parts” will feature several artists participating in the gallery’s “Whimsy: Flights of Fancy” exhibition — Robin Brooks, Christine Covert, Jillian Herrigel and Catherine Worthington.
The artists will explain how they combine images, printed material and even found objects in their quest for creations that dazzle the eye and offer a different perspective on the nature of art. Collage was identified and defined as a fine art form in the early 20th century, specifically with the work of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque.
“Whimsy” is on display until June 15. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at 15 Warren St., Wiscasset.
