Addison DeRoche struck out 17 while pitching her third no-hitter of the season, and Cheverus remained undefeated with a 5-2 win over Bonny Eagle in a Class A South softball game Wednesday in Portland.
Aided by two walks and a passed ball, Bonny Eagle scored twice in the top of the first inning. DeRoche allowed only one more walk the rest of the way.
Cheverus (13-0) tied it in the bottom of the first, then took the lead in the fourth with Anna Goodman drove in Hailey Lamontagne with a sacrifice fly.
Bonny Eagle pitchers Lily Regan and Reese Bryant held the Stags to just four hits, two by Bella Napolitano Aberle.
FREEPORT 11, LAKE REGION 4: Lilliana Larochelle was 3 for 4 with a two-run homer and three runs scored as the Falcons (10-3) defeated the Lakers (7-6) in Naples.
Winning pitcher Isabella George, Vanessa St. Pierre and Alison each added a pair of hits.
Haley Hamlin had a two-run double for Lake Region. Abbi Nadeau and Ava Cole contributed two hits apiece.
POLAND 3, WELLS 2: Carly-Ann Jarvis went 3 for 4 and drove in Phoebe Paradis in the eighth inning to give the Knights (7-8) a win over the Warriors (8-7) in Poland.
Jarvis finished with two RBI and a run scored, and Paradis scored the other two Poland runs.
Paradis didn’t allow a hit through the first five innings but walked seven and gave up two unearned runs, striking out 10. Karlee Lothrop pitched the last three innings, giving up one hit, by Jada Pullen.
Delani Brown went the distance for Wells, striking out 12.
BIDDEFORD 10, WESTBROOK 4: Corinne Ramunno was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI, leading the Tigers (8-5) past the Blue Blazes (8-6) in Biddeford.
Biddeford finished with 15 hits, including three by Eliza Doyon. Mariah Villandry had two hits and two RBI, and Ayla Lagasse and Lauren Small also collected two hits.
Elyse Broad led Westbrook with two hits and an RBI.
MASSABESIC 4, SCARBOROUGH 3: Candice Daigle was 4 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored, leading the Mustangs (6-6) past the Red Storm (2-9) in Waterboro.
Kendal Pelletier took over for Massabesic with one out in the first inning and allowed five hits and two runs the rest of the way.
Giuliana Giftos had two hits, an RBI and a run scored for Scarborough.
CONY 13, OCEANSIDE 3: Suri Ramkissoon had three hits and struck out six without issuing a walk as the Rams (9-4) beat the Mariners (0-14) in five innings in Augusta.
Olivia Duplessis, Ava Brown, Brodie Barrows and Reve Turner each added two hits. The Rams scored nine runs in the fourth inning.
LINCOLN ACADEMY 9, GARDINER 3: Amelia Starbird was 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, and Olivia Ball allowed only two hits as the Eagles beat the Tigers in Gardiner.
Ball also had a good day at the plate with a double, two singles and two RBI. Bronwen Coffin and Brea Lafrenaye each contributed two hits, including a triple by Lafrenaye.
Molly Takatsu belted a triple, drove in a run and scored once for Gardiner.
WINDHAM 25, MARSHWOOD 2: Yani Kostopoulos and Kennedy Kimball both homered and drove in four runs for the Eagles (12-1) in a three-inning win over the Hawks (4-10) at South Berwick.
Stella Jarvais was 4 for 4, and Kostopoulos, Oakley McLeod and Kaylee Napolitano all had three hits. McLeod scored four runs, and Napolitano had three RBI and three runs scored.
Zoe Noonan and Keira Keaveny got the only Marshwood hits.
ST. DOMINIC 12, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 3: Sophia Franciose tallied two hits, a double and three RBI for the Saints (9-3) in their win over the Panthers in Yarmouth.
Piper Croteau had three hits, two runs and two RBI, Cassidy Russell added two hits and drove in two runs, and Emily Andrews had a pair of hits and scored twice.
Natasha Godfrey had two RBI for NYA (10-3). Lily Fortin contributed a pair of hits.
BASEBALL
CAPE ELIZABETH 12, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 8: Jimmy Hollowell was 4 for 4 with three RBI, spearheading a 16-hit attack as the Capers (11-3) defeated the Patriots (6-8) in Gray.
Andy Choi homered and drove in two runs. Choi, Joseph Grela, Jameson Bryant, Caiden Johnson and Henry Trowbridge all had two hits.
Bryant was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned) through five innings.
Kobi Conant and Liam Joyce led the Patriots with two hits apiece.
KENNEBUNK 5, WINDHAM 2: Theodore Adams pitched a three-hitter as the Rams (5-8) defeated the Eagles (1-13) in Kennebunk.
Adams struck out eight and walked five.
Isaac Jensen and Bradley Farrell each had two hits, and Max Andrews drove in two runs for Kennebunk.
CONY 5, OCEANSIDE 1: Landen Perry struck out six and allowed three hits in five innings as the Rams (11-2) notched their sixth consecutive victory and stayed atop Class B North by topping the Mariners (7-7) in Augusta.
Anderson Noyes had a single and two runs scored for Cony.
Dylan Chiaramonte got two hits for Oceanside.
LAKE REGION 8, FREEPORT 1: Noah Peterson allowed just one hit over five innings as the Lakers (10-3) beat the Falcons (4-10) in Naples.
Lake Region took control early with three runs in the first inning. Jaiden Meehan highlighted the rally with a two-run single.
SCARBOROUGH 5, THORNTON ACADEMY 2: Erik Swenson saw his streak of hitless innings come to an end, but the senior right-hander struck out 11 as the Red Storm (12-0) turned back the Golden Trojans (10-3) in Scarborough.
Swenson entered the game with 18 consecutive inning without allowing a hit — a stretch that included a no-hitter, a perfect game and a combined perfect game (with Ryan Shugars). Against Thornton, the senior right-hander yielded five hits, and his scoreless streak ended when Thornton tied the game with two runs in the fifth.
The reigning Class A champions quickly answered, though, scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Matthew Fallona paced Scarborough’s offense with three hits. Jacob Fish had two hits for Thornton.
BONNY EAGLE 3, CHEVERUS 2: Garrett Secord doubled home the tying run in the bottom of the seventh, the scored on a single by Atticus Dixon as the Scots (6-7) rallied past the Stags (3-11) in Standish.
Cheverus grabbed a 2-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI single by Devin Kelly.
Bonny Eagle pitcher Gavin Saucier went the distance, allowing five hits while striking out six and walking none.
John Sprague took the loss despite giving up just four hits.
GIRLS LACROSSE
FREEPORT 17, WAYNFLETE 9: Mia Levesque led the Falcons (10-0) with five goals in a win over the Flyers (6-4) in Freeport.
Lana DiRusso added four goals, Reed Proscia and Elsa Klein scored three apiece, and Gwen Dunham netted two goals. Freeport goalie Hailey Curtis made eight saves.
Waynflete’s Skylar Harris scored five goals. Fallon Culley, Casey Curtis, Lauren McNutt-Girouard and Alex Leopold rounded out the scoring.
GREELY 10, YORK 5: Audrey Ingersoll, Jane Flynn and Kacie Lord each scored twice, leading the Rangers (6-5) past the Wildcats (3-9) in Cumberland.
Kesley Crocker chipped in with a goal and two assists. Greely also got goals from Abby Collins, Avery Bush and Hadley Hatch.
Emerson Joyce, Sophia Luchette, Ava Fontaine, Evie Martin and Hannah Moroney scored for York.
CONY 15, DEERING 7: Abby Morrill and Gabby Vachon scored four goals apiece as Cony (10-3) prevailed in Portland.
Casey Monson added three goals. Emma Buccellatto, Harper Lawrence, Ellie Leeman and Paige Logan had a goal each.
Deering (1-11) got three goals from Sofia Nieves, two from Quincy Cummings and one each from Isa Garcia and Maya Zagar. Jael Mbadu made 14 saves.
BOYS LACROSSE
BONNY EAGLE 7, CONY 4: Colby Bailey finished with three goals while Colby Haskell added two to lead the Scots (5-6) over the Rams (3-7) in Standish.
Zach Waddell led Cony with two goals.
